Pipe Carriers also known as Pipe Tubes and Conduit Carriers typically measure 3 metres long and are designed to support a universal fit onto your van’s roof.

Pipe Carriers tend to come in two distinct variants, lined and unlined. In this article we will discuss the difference between these line and unlined pipe carriers.

Construction: Unlined van pipe carriers are typically constructed from Aluminium and contain no internal lining. They usually have an opening at either end.

Advantages:

Cost-effective: Unlined van pipe carriers are usually cheaper to purchase, compared to lined carriers.

Simplicity: They are simpler in design and construction, which may result in easier maintenance and repair.

Disadvantages:

Lack of protection: Since they lack internal lining, unlined carriers provide minimal protection to pipes against external elements such as moisture, dirt, and corrosion.

Risk of damage: Pipes transported in unlined carriers are more susceptible to damage during transit due to exposure to environmental factors and potential shifting during transportation.

Recommendations:

If you are mainly carrying copper tubes an Unlined Pipe Tube could be the best option for you, as it may not matter if the copper tubes are marked by rubbing against the inside of the pipe carrier.

Due to the lack of lining, it is possible to fit more copper tubes in an Unlined Pipe Tube.

Low-budget projects: When budget constraints are significant, opting for unlined carriers might be a practical choice.

Construction: Lined van pipe carriers are equipped with an internal plastic lining.

Advantages:

Enhanced protection: The internal lining provides a protective barrier against moisture, corrosion, and physical damage, safeguarding the pipes during transit.

Versatility: Lined carriers can accommodate a variety of pipe materials and sizes, offering flexibility in transportation.

Disadvantages:

Higher cost: Lined van pipe carriers are typically more expensive due to the added cost of materials and construction.

Recommendations:

Long-distance transportation: Lined van pipe carriers are ideal for transporting pipes over long distances where prolonged exposure to environmental factors is a concern.

High-value cargo: When transporting high-value pipes or materials where damage prevention is critical, investing in lined carriers is justified.

Corrosive environments: In environments prone to corrosion or chemical exposure, such as coastal areas or industrial zones, lined carriers offer superior protection.

If you are transporting plastic pipes and do not want the pipes to be marked we recommend that you purchase a lined pipe carrier.

In summary, the choice between unlined and lined van pipe carriers depends on factors such as distance of transportation, budget constraints, and the level of protection required for the pipes. Unlined carriers are suitable for short-distance, budget-conscious projects, while lined carriers are preferable for long-distance transportation, high-value cargo, and environments where protection against corrosion and damage is paramount.
